The Floatation Tank Experience
Sessions in our ‘THINK Tank’ will be an integral and vital part of your programme. You’re probably already well aware of the benefits of ‘float tanks’ in the reduction of everyday stresses.
Medical science accepts that most of today’s endemic ‘lifestyle’ diseases are stress-related. Floatation triggers a profound ‘relaxation response’.
On a gross physical level, floatation allows the body to achieve a state of total relaxation - much deeper and richer than normal sleep - almost comparable to a state of hibernation at what is called the theta state. The theta state is just above the threshold of sleep, akin to the meditative state achieved by Zen monks.
It is highly beneficial for stress management and wellbeing, setting in motion the body’s amazing powers of healing, regeneration and rejuvenation, in an optimal state of balance, harmony and equilibrium.
In the zero gravity environment, muscles can relax fully. Residual muscle tension (often unconsciously locked into the body, and sometimes called ‘body armour’) discharges completely.
With a reduced workload on the heart and cardiovascular system, blood pressure and heart rate are lowered to healthy levels. Blood vessels and capillaries dilate, improving the flow of nutrients and oxygen to every single cell in the body, promoting healthy tissue growth.
During deep relaxation too, the level of T-cells in the bloodstream is boosted, strengthening the immune system.
On a more subtle biological level, deep neuromuscular relaxation changes the type of hormones secreted by the brain and endocrine system.
Floating cleanses harmful stress hormones from the bloodstream. It releases large amounts of endorphins into the bloodstream, giving immediate relief from chronic pain and fatigue.
These subtle changes in body chemistry have a profoundly beneficial impact on an individual’s emotional balance. Negative emotions such as anxiety and fear are replaced by positive feelings of empowerment, confidence and wellbeing - the feeling of being ‘on top of the world’.
Negative emotions such as anxiety and fear are replaced by positive feelings of empowerment, confidence and wellbeing - the feeling of being ‘on top of the world’.
That’s Floatation. But there’s MORE ...
You may not know that there is a vast difference between a conventional float tank, and the state-of-the-art Nutrition Diagnostics chemical free floatation facility. The differences couldn’t be greater. This distinction will be especially important to you if you’ve tried float tanks before, and for one reason or another, have been put off the idea of float tanks.
For starters, the chemically treated tanks ‘of old’ – though remarkably still widely in use today – tend to be claustrophobic and dark. And they require undesirable chemicals to keep them sterile - bromide and chlorine. Bromide and chlorine are implicated in the depletion of iodine in the body, which in turn interferes with thyroid function.
The very latest chemical free technology
In contrast, we have chosen the very latest chemical free technology. So we searched worldwide until we were satisfied we’d found the very latest, very best, and incidentally, most expensive system in float tank technology.
Your tank at our Centre has an automated computer controlled filtration system, delivering impeccable cleanliness and personal safety.
Indeed, the equipment we’ve chosen for you is the world’s first 100% chemical-free floatation tank. The chemical-free filtration is provided via a process of oxygenation, combined with ionization and UV treatment.
This natural oxygen treatment results in elevated levels of pure oxygen in the tank atmosphere – thus combining the benefits of oxygen therapy with floatation. There’s even the option of a built-in DVD and sound system that vibrates the water to your selection of relaxing sounds and music.
The Nutrition Diagnostics Float system – the ‘Rolls Royce’ of floatation
Needless to say, we were NOT about to equip our world’s best practice Centre with old technology.
All this guarantees your Nutrition Diagnostics float experiences will be both therapeutic, while being a vital part of your detoxification process on your journey to lifelong health ...
And at the same time, it’s a chance for you to luxuriate in a intensely serene, quiet, creative and inspirational periods of meditation - a million miles from the maddening crowd! What more could you ask for as part of your journey to radiant health?
The Relaxation Response – What you’ll experience
Here is a brief description of what you’ll experience in your THINK Tank session:
Start of Session
- At the start of session, relaxing music, or guided meditations/progressive relaxation exercises can accelerate and deepen the relaxation response associated with floating. It takes between 10 to 20 minutes for the floatation REST environment to induce the relaxation response, and for you to adjust from the sensory overload of the external world to the tranquility of the floatation chamber.
- If you’re a first-time floater, you may find at first that this transition doesn’t come easily. There’s a natural tendency to be slightly nervous, excited, curious, and over- analytical - all at the same time. Again, this is perfectly natural and is overcome with each additional session.
- At the mid-point of a session, when brainwave activity is in the potent theta levels, learning or motivational training materials can have a profound impact.
End of Session
- At the end-of-session, music will rouse you from deep relaxation, and signal that the float session is over. Experienced floaters often prefer to spend most of the float session in complete silence. At all times, you have fingertip control over the audio systems.
Floatation REST - the science of deep relaxation
Our THINK Tank is based on a scientific approach to deep relaxation known as Restricted Environmental Stimulation Therapy, and its acronym REST. Floatation REST ‘restricts’ or eliminates all the external stress- factors or ‘stimuli’ that normally affect body and mind in day- to-day life.
Gravity: The concentrated Epsom salt solution creates a weightless environment that liberates mind and body from the effects of gravity.
Temperature: The solution is kept at skin-temperature, thus freeing the nervous system and brain from another constant stress-factor.
Touch: With only skin-temperature fluid in contact with the millions of sensitive nerve-endings that cover the skin, there is no sense of separation between the body and its surroundings. According to research, this reduction in tactile stimulation (sense of touch) plays a subtle but important part in triggering a profound state of relaxation. Subjectively, it creates a sensation of complete loss of body boundaries.
Sight and sound: Floating in complete darkness and silence liberates large areas of the brain devoted to processing sensory information, further increasing the depth of mental relaxation.
Although we are usually not consciously aware of these external factors, taken together they consume over 95% of our physical and mental energy.
Excerpt from Floatation REST in Applied Psychophysiology.....
“Patients reported far more relief from anxiety and stress from flotation than any other modality. For depression, floatation was equal to counselling at near 70%, with relaxation training at 53% and physical therapy and medication at 20%. Patients also claimed to have reaped a variety of other benefits from floatation, reporting improvements in sleep (65%), mental concentration (77%), energy (46%), interpersonal relationships (54%), ability to work (35%), ability to cope with pain (88%), ability to cope with stress (92%), and feelings of well-being (65%) resulting from floatation REST.”

Sufficient Sulfur is essential to detox the body of toxins and waste. Low levels may lead to a 'backlog' of toxins, which in turn can affect our central nervous system. Most sulfur supplements are difficult for the body to absorb and therefore have minimal effect. However, Epsom Salt provides sulphates in a readily absorbable form to help the body rid itself of waste products and toxins by making them water soluble and therefore easily excreted.
Epsom Salt supplies readily absorbable sulfates which attach to phenols and sets them up for being excreted via the kidneys.
Magnesium helps to regulate the activity of more than 325 enzymes, and performs a vital role in many bodily functions, from muscle control and electrical impulses to energy production and the elimination of harmful toxins. It improves nerve function by regulating electrolytes and is necessary to maintain proper calcium levels in the blood. Excess adrenaline and stress are believed to drain magnesium, a natural stress reliever, from the body. Magnesium is necessary for the body to bind adequate amounts of serotonin, a mood elevating chemical within the brains that creates a feeling of well being and relaxation.
As magnesium and sulfates are absorbed through the skin they intensify the biological process of detoxification and calm the nervous system. Many people find they have a very relaxed sleep as a result.
